While Mansory exists to turn the G63 into (an aesthetic?) showpiece, Brabus has opted to create an off-roader that can rival the likes of purpose-built V8 Defenders and supercharged Jeeps for where to beaten path ends.

The new G63 hasn’t been out for all that long, but the traditionally styled box on wheels has been subject to treatment by many tuners. The latest is Brabus, which has unveiled the Brabus 800 Adventure XLP Superblack – a model meant to convert the Geländewagen into an even more competent off-roader. The fettled Merc was unveiled earlier this week and retains the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 from Affalterbach. As the name hints, it now delivers 800 hp (588 kW) 1 000 N.m of torque. Brabus stated that this increase in power is courtesy of the PowerXtra B40S-800 performance kit, which includes larger turbochargers and a bespoke engine control unit. The result is a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 4.6 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 210 km/h.

That top speed isn’t really what this Brabus model is about, though. The tuner has equipped it with portal axles, which means its ground clearance is now 470 mm. Brabus states they have done this in conjunction with the Brabus Ride Control suspension system to offer drivers adjustable damping for optimal performance across diverse terrains. Visually, the Superblack boasts a Widestar widebody kit which features carbon fibre elements such as the front fascia inserts, underride protection, and a power dome. The vehicle rides on 22-inch Brabus Monoblock HD forged wheels, wrapped in 325/55 R22 Pirelli Scorpion ATR tires.

Inside, the Superblack continues with a luxury theme with its handcrafted “Mondial Black” leather interior, adorned with “Double Cube” quilting and “Heritage 77” embossing. The cabin also features Alcantara headliners, carbon fibre accents, and a suite of modern amenities, including a Burmester surround sound system and ambient lighting with 64 colour options. All of this comes at a price, though, the Brabus badged model starts at €449 820 (or about R9.2 million).
