The MONaco Big Band is set to make its jazz series premiere at the Audi Forum Ingolstadt. On April 10, the group will take the audience on an entertaining journey through the history of jazz, primarily reviving the sophisticated swing of the 1930s and 1940s – with popular songs penned by jazz legends such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and Benny Goodman. The ensemble will also touch on classic jazz standards from the 1920s and perform some modern jazz arrangements.
The group’s name and the way it is written reflect the big band’s origins as a project of the Musikbund von Ober- und Niederbayern, or MON for short, based in Munich. Founded in 1953, the association represents the organized music groups and marching bands in the region.
Since its inception, the big band has been under the direction of trombonist Gerd Fink, a former member of the orchestra fronted by swing and jazz musician Hugo Strasser. During that time, Fink worked with well-known orchestras and musicians including Udo Lindenberg, Max Greger, Dusko Goykovich, James Morrison, Howard Carpendale, and Ute Lemper.
Tickets for the MONaco Big Band concert on April 10 at 8 p.m. at the Audi museum mobile are now on sale for 25 euros (reduced price 20 euros) in the Audi ticket shop.
