Volvo Cars establishes a new world sales record by announcing annual sales of 763,389 vehicles in 2024, an increase of 8 % compared to the whole of 2023. Volvo Cars sold 73,804 vehicles worldwide in December, a decrease of 3 % compared to December 2023.
Volvo Cars also recorded a significant increase in sales of its electrified cars. For the whole of 2024, Volvo Cars sold 175,194 electric cars, an increase of 54 % compared to 2023, and 177,593 rechargeable hybrid cars, an increase of 16 % compared to 2023. Electrified vehicles represented 46 % of all Volvo sales in the world in 2024. Volvo worldwide in 2024, against 16 % in 2023.
European sales reached 369,685 units in 2024, an increase of 25 % compared to 2023. The range of electric cars from Volvo Cars, composed of all -electric and rechargeable hybrid models, represented 65 % of all cars sold in the region last year.
In France, Volvo Cars recorded a record market share in 2024, to 1.15 % thanks to registrations growing 32.1 % in a market down 3.2 %. Indeed Volvo Cars finds one of its highest levels of sale in France with 19,793 registrations made in 2024. This is the second best historical performance in France, after 2019 (21,696 registrations) and in front of the 19,260 units recorded in 1986.
The rechargeable hybrid models counted for 39.0 % of the brand’s sales in France (7,725 units) in 2024, while the 100 % electric models represented 40.2 % of registrations (7,725 units) over the same period. Deliveries of 100 % electric Volvo models have more than doubled between 2023 and 2024, carried by the success of the new ex30, and the brand holds 2.74 % of the electrical market shares in 2024.
The new Volvo Ex30 is the new bestseller of the brand in France with 5,143 registrations in 2024, followed by the duo EX40/XC40 which accumulate 4,981 registrations and the XC60 with 4,897 registrations.
In the United States, 125,243 units were sold in 2024, a decrease of 3 % compared to the whole of 2023. Sales of electrified vehicles increased by 20 % and represented 34 % of all cars sold in the United States during the year.
Sales in China decreased by 8 % compared to 2023, with 156,370 units sold in 2024. Overall, sales of electric cars increased by 3 % between January and December.
In 2024, the Volvo XC60 was the best -selling model with 230,853 units (2023: 228,646 units), followed by the XC40/Ex40 with a total of 173,890 units sold (2023: 200 670 units) and the XC90 with 108,621 units sold (2023: 107,549).
