According to the latest Naamsa stats, 9 961 new LCVs, including bakkies and mini-buses, were sold in April 2025. That’s a modest increase of 307 units compared to the same month last year, which saw 9 654 units leave showroom floors. The 3.2% year-on-year growth may seem small, but in today’s climate, it’s a sign of consistent demand—especially in the ever-popular bakkie segment.
Medium truck sales also moved in the right direction, climbing 10.2% to reach 629 units, up from 571 units sold in April 2024. On the other hand, heavy trucks and buses took a knock, dipping by 11.1% year-on-year. Just 1 710 units were registered in April 2025, compared to 1 923 a year earlier.
With that context in mind, we’ve decided to take a closer look at the top five best-selling bakkies in South Africa for April 2025. These workhorses continue to drive the backbone of both urban and rural economies, and their performance offers valuable insight into market trends and customer loyalty.
